On October 27, Jim Richardson and Mike presented at this year’s Summit Nature & Conservation Workshop with a presentation titled, “Photography to the Rescue: What pictures can do for nature”. The Summit Nature & Conservation Workshop is a long-standing workshop held in Jackson, Wyoming, but it was successfully held virtually this year.

The Garden Club of America - J. Sherwood Chalmers Medalist
The J. Sherwood Chalmers Medal is awarded for outstanding achievement in the field of photography and/or photography education as it relates to the purpose of The Garden Club of America and will be awarded to Michael Forsberg for his exceptional photographs of the Great Plains.
Follow the Water is now Online
Follow the Water is a 60 minute PBS National documentary about conservation photographer Michael Forsberg and filmmaker Pete Stegen's two-month, 1300-mile traverse across the Platte Basin watershed all by bike, foot, and canoe. This journey was all in effort to explore this critical water source and to show how it intersects with the lives of those who live in this 90,000-square mile watershed in the heart of North America. It tells the story of the Platte River Basin as Mike and Pete journey through the watershed - meeting dedicated conservationists, giving voice to the land and wildlife, seeing whats at stake, exploring the Platte Basin Timelapse project, and more. Heuermann Lecture- Nebraska: An Ecosystem in Harmony
In order to meet the global demand for food, fuel, feed and fiber agricultural production must increase by more than 70% by 2050. Reaching this goal will require a more efficient use of marginal lands, extensive growth in agriculture and new methods to deal with extreme weather, soil degradation and biological invasions. The discussion of Nebraska’s healthy agricultural ecosystems will be followed by dinner and a showing of the NET Television documentary film “Follow the Water.” The film tells the story about connections between the environment and people, and a river that shaped the land. Mike, along with Craig Allen and Andrea Basche will be speaking at this event.
School of Natural Resources Arts and Conservation Night
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Nature Resources hosted its first Arts and Conservation night which included a gallery of conservation and science art, photography, and multimedia pieces followed by a screening of “Time and the River” and then a panel discussion with the Platte Basin Timelapse team.
Great Plains Exhibition on display at Lake McConaughy
Mike’s traveling photography exhibit along with a documentary by Mike and filmmaker Peter Stegen called “Follow the Water” is on display at the Lake McConaughy Visitor and Water Interpretive Center from Nov. 15 through Feb. 2, 2020.

South Platte Forum Keynote Speaker
The South Platte Forum was initiated in 1989 to provide an avenue for a timely, multi-disciplinary exchange of information and ideas important to resource management in the South Platte River Basin. Mike was the closing Keynote speaker at this event.
Orthopaedic Surgery UNMC 50th Anniversary
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation marked the residency program’s 50th anniversary in 2019 with an October celebration. Mike was asked to be the featured speaker at this event.
Greater Yellowstone Crane Festival
This week-long event filled with tours, workshops, presentations, and film, culminates in a community-wide celebration of the Greater Yellowstone region’s exceptional wildlife, irreplaceable natural resources, and the fall migration of the Sandhill Crane on the Driggs City Center Plaza. The festival supports the efforts of the Greater Yellowstone Sandhill Crane Initiative which works to protect crucial habitat and resources for the largest staging population of Sandhill Cranes in the Greater Yellowstone and the myriad of iconic species that call the region home. Grand Opening: Headwaters Center
Located along the Fraser River on the edge of Winter Park, Headwaters Center is Colorado’s first on-the-water, off-the-power-grid gathering place for celebration, recreation and education. Multi-dimensional and multi-faceted, Headwaters Center offers Grand County’s residents and visitors alike unique spaces to gather, grow, and grasp our greatest water issues. In partnership with the Headwaters Center, Platte Basin Timelapse has three time-lapse cameras that are incorporated in the exhibit.
Exhibition Ending: A River Runs Through It
A River Runs Through It exhibition will be ending on August 4, 2019. This exhibition is held at Kearney, Nebraska’s Museum of Modern Art (MONA). Platte Basin Timelapse is featured in this exhibition along with many other talented Nebraska artist. The above images is on display at the museum along with several other multimedia pieces produced by the PBT team. Be sure to check it out before it ends!
